Die Firma BIG gehört zu den bedeutendsten Spielwarenproduzenten Deutschlands und überzeugen mit hochwertig produziertem Plastikkinderspielzeug. Das bekannteste Produkt der Firma ist das BIG-BOBBY-CAR, welches die Kinder schon seit Jahrzehnten begeistert. Seit jeher steht die Marke BIG für kinderfreundliches Design, aber auch für Qualität und Sicherheit der Kinder. Die Firma profitiert durch ihre jahrelange Erfahrung im Bereich des Kinderspielzeugs, daher sind alle Produkte dem Kinderkörper ergonomisch angepasst und unterstützen das Kind bei seiner Entwicklung. Unter dem Zeichen des Büffels werden ausschließlich gesundheits-unbedenkliche Materialien verwendet.
Eine hohe gleichbleibende Qualität erreichen sie durch einen UV-Stabilisator. BIG achtet darauf, dass ausschließlich altersgerechte Funktionen an Fahrzeugen sind, die die Kinder bei der Entwicklung aktiv unterstützen. Durch die Verwendung hochwertiger Grundstoffe und der Herstellung von qualitativen Produkten arbeitet die Firma ressourcenschonend und energiesparend.
Die Firma BIG wurde im Jahr 1938 unter dem Namen Johann Höfler Metallspielwarenfabrik gegründet. Zu Anfang verkaufte die Firma Johann Höfler Spielwaren aus Blech hergestellte Produkte wie z.B. Autos, Rennwagen, Flugzeuge, Figuren, Frösche, Schreihälse, Puppenhäuser und Eisenbahnen. Das Markenlogo, welches die Firma damals trug, war ein dreiblättriges Kleeblatt und die Buchstaben „J“ und „H“.
Die Firma wurde im Jahre 1954 von Ernst A. Bettag übernommen. Das erste Spielzeug, das unter dem neuen Besitzer produziert worden ist, war das „Racing Car“. Dieses wurde innerhalb eines Jahres mehr als 1,2 Millionen Mal verkauft. Im Jahr 1956 hat Herr Bettag seine gesamte Produktion auf Kunststoff umgestellt und spezialisierte sich auf Rutschfahrzeuge.
Die Firma änderte den Namen im Jahr 1962 von Johann Höfler auf BIG. In diesem Jahr wurde der Büffel als Markenzeichen der Firma eingeführt. Erst vier Jahre später fanden Kunden den Büffel auch auf den Produkten des Unternehmens wieder.
Das bis heute weltbekannte Produkt das BIG-BOBBY-CAR wurde im Jahr 1972 zum ersten Mal auf der Nürnberger Spielzeugmesse vorgestellt. Seit 2005 werden nicht nur das klassische Bobby Car produziert. Unter der Reihe „New Bobby Car“ passen sich die Rutschfahrzeuge dem Automobildesign des 21. Jahrhunderts an.
1985 wurde das erste Tretfahrzeug mit realistischer Funktion der Ladeschaufel für Kinder von BIG eingeführt. 13 Jahre später vernichtete ein Brand das BIG-Werk in Fürth. Nach diesem Brand entstand innerhalb von nur 16 Monaten eine komplett neue Produktionszentrale von BIG in Burghasloch.
Das Unternehmen wurde im Jahr 2004 von der SIMBA DICKIE GROUP übernommen.
Die Firma BIG betreibt ihre Produktion in Burghasloch in der Nähe von Nürnberg und Würzburg. Dort produzieren sie auf insgesamt 320.000 Quadratmeter kleine und große Kinderträume. Die Produktion zählt zu einer der modernsten innerhalb Europas. Produziert werden die Teile im Blas- und Spritzgussverfahren. Die Fabrik wird im 3 Schicht-System betrieben.
Bevor ein Produkt in den Handel kommt, wird es auf Herz und Nieren geprüft. Die Firma versucht ihr Spielzeug durch umfangreiche Test auf einem hohen Qualitäts- und Sicherheits-Standard zu halten. Zusammen mit unabhängigen Testlaboren und Instituten ist dies erfolgreich möglich.
